Officials from Russian energy giant Gazprom met with Alaskan state officials to discuss investing in the northern state's energy projects, the company said.
"Gazprom has accumulated great experience in exploring hydrocarbon deposits, building and using gas pipelines in the far north environment," the company said in the statement.
"Gazprom's experience will be relevant in realization of similar projects in Alaska," Gazprom said.
State representatives and about a dozen company officials, including close associates of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, met Monday in Anchorage, The New York Times reported.
In June, the company expressed interest in joining a consortium that is constructing an Alaska-to-Canada pipeline.
The meeting in Anchorage took place nearly three weeks after vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin took a hard line with Russia in a television interview, the Times said.
