Thales has won a $36.7m contract from the Abu Dhabi Airports Company to integrate communications at Abu Dhabi International Airport's new air traffic control center tower.

France-based Thales will provide integrated advanced A automation features needed for air traffic control and airport ground control systems and aeronautical information systems.

Richard Deakin, senior vice president of Thales Air Systems, said: "With one of the biggest airport infrastructure developments ever conceived taking place in Abu Dhabi, we are thrilled to be part of this history-making enterprise by bringing our technical expertise and know-how into installing the new systems for the airport's new air traffic control center."

Thales said it will also open a Middle East Support Center at the Abu Dhabi International Airport Business and Logistics Park.
