Spacenet Raises the Bar on Pre-Packaged Satellite Communications With New 5Mbps Service and Industry’s Only Minimum Assured Speed
Spacenet Inc., one of the world's largest providers of broadband satellite networks, announced today that it has increased the speed of its commercial grade Connexstar Performance Series service to include a 5Mbps (mega bit per second) option -- making it among the fastest pre-packaged satellite communications solutions available. The service also comes with the industry's only Minimum Assured Speed, providing customers with a performance guarantee not provided by other satellite services. Connexstar Performance Series is designed for mission critical environments that require simultaneous voice, video, and data communications via satellite, and is available exclusively for commercial and government organizations. To meet growing demand for business continuity communications, the new 5Mbps service is available in both full-time and part-time service plans, ideal for hot stand-by and rapid fail-over requirements for healthcare organizations, financial institutions, big box retail stores, and government agencies.
Most off-the-shelf satellite services available today are designed for consumer grade Internet traffic, and are not intended for mission critical applications. These value oriented services generally advertise a "best effort" top speed, but offer no guarantees of network performance or actual user experience. Consumer grade services also tend to include strict fair access policies that may significantly reduce the connection speed if the user transmits data or files above a pre-set limit over a specified period of time. Spacenet's Connexstar Performance Series overcomes these concerns by offering a true commercial grade service complete with a Minimum Assured Speed guarantee, and no automatic performance penalties for exceeding fair access policy guidelines.
Spacenet Senior Vice President David Myers said, "The challenge for commercial and government customers of satellite communications is often understanding what you are really getting for your money. The customer is left with unanswered questions. Can I really get the advertised top speed? What is the minimum speed I can expect? How secure and reliable is the service?" Mr. Myers continued, "Value oriented services certainly have their place, and we offer them at Spacenet as well, but in a mission critical environment your satellite link is a virtual lifeline. Personnel in the field need commercial grade satellite services built on field proven technology and designed for high reliability. Spacenet's Connexstar Performance Series, with the new 5Mbps option and Minimum Assured Speed guarantee, provides both carrier class services and peace of mind for organizations with serious communications requirements."
Launched in 2002, Connexstar is Spacenet's line of commercial grade satellite communications, designed exclusively for business, industrial, and government applications. Connexstar leads the satellite communications industry by offering a number of commercial grade features and capabilities not available from other "off-the-shelf" VSAT services. These features include the only Cisco(R) certified and integrated VSAT solution, a carrier class telephone service option, and the industry's only "Minimum Assured Speed" commitment, providing customers a performance guarantee not found on other satellite services.
