PECO II Features Fuel Cell Solution at OSP Expo 2008
BALTIMORE, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — PECO II, Inc. , a communications industry power systems and services provider, is featuring a fuel cell solution in its booth (#1037) at the OSP Expo in Baltimore on October 22-23. The fuel cell solution combines hydrogen fuel cell modules from Dantherm Power, Inc. with PECO’s Quantum Power System and SC1084 cabinet. Dantherm Power and PECO are working together with systems integrator BCI Communications, Inc. to create an integrated power cabinet that gives customers new options for meeting extended runtime backup power requirements.
The Dantherm fuel cell module provides backup power in 1.6kW increments. The system on display at OSP Expo 2008 includes two 1.6kW modules as well as the control and remote monitoring functions needed to ensure availability of DC power to the telecom equipment in the event of a loss of AC grid power to the site. This flexible system gives telecom customers the ability to meet FCC-mandated backup power runtimes of eight hours or more.
The fuel cells are housed in PECO’s SC1084 OSP cabinet, which provides a total of 42 RU of mounting space. The cabinet can be equipped with a Dantherm air conditioner or heat exchanger. The cabinet dimensions are 84″H x 30″W x 30″D.
The load is powered by PECO’s Quantum Power System, a 48-volt DC power system that combines high-density rectifiers, distribution and control in a sleek, low-profile shelf. Designed for the harsh outside plant environment, the Quantum system’s small footprint makes it ideal for cabinets where rack space is at a premium. In this application, the Quantum system can provide up to 120 Amps of current at 48VDC.
BCI, Green Energy Group is providing systems integration capabilities to ensure the complete product conforms to the needs of the market. In addition to defining the requirements for the configuration, BCI offers the user a complete turnkey package for design, installation and maintenance. A key part of the maintenance package is BCI’s fuel replenishment service, which eliminates one of the major concerns of fuel cell deployment by wireless carriers. In addition, BCI will provide financing options that include rental and lease purchase agreements.
