BHEL to Set Up 412MW Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh

Power engineering company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has secured a contract for setting up a 412MW hydro electric project in Himachal Pradesh, India.

The order for the electro-mechanical package for the World Bank-funded Rampur hydro electric project (HEP) was bagged by Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) under international competitive bidding.

Valued at over INR6.41 billion, the order for the Rampur HEP has been placed on BHEL by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL).

Located in the Kullu district, about 235km from Kalka, the powerhouse will generate electricity utilizing the waters of the river Satluj at a 119m head. The Rampur HEP is located downstream to the 6x250MW Nathpa Jhakri HEP and will use the de-silted water discharged by the upstream project.

The equipment will be supplied by BHEL's works at Bhopal and Bangalore and the project is slated for commissioning in a 42-month schedule. BHEL's scope of work in the contract envisages design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of complete electromechanical works for the project.

Major equipment to be supplied includes six vertical hydro turbines with matching synchronous generators; digital governors; microprocessor-based controls, monitoring and protection system, switchyard and 400kV gas-insulated switchgear, besides other associated equipment and auxiliaries.
