The National Energy Marketers Association (NEM) has invited public officials from key energy consuming states in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and the federal government to exchange ideas with CEOs of energy services and technology firms from around the country to help solve problems both homeowners and businesses face coping with the credit and economic crisis facing our country. “What began as NEM’s Annual Fall Leadership Roundtable has expanded into an Energy Policy Summit of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic state and federal officials and the leaders of an emerging high-growth Energy Services and Technology Industry,” said Craig Goodman, president of NEM.

“Interest in competitively priced energy services and technologies has increased significantly given the economic downturn, shrinking budgets and the need to cut both costs and consumption. Rules that permit competitive energy services and technology providers to enter traditionally monopolized markets can ease the mounting financial pressures facing every homeowner and business across the country,” says Goodman, a former energy high-ranking energy policy official for three prior Presidents.

“Roundtable participants will discuss fair, transparent and consumer-focused ways to educate the public about energy and technology choices available in the marketplace today,” said Goodman. “Energy competition drives price, service and technology innovation, providing greater value, to help consumers,” said Craig Goodman. “Energy policy officials and industry leaders attending NEM’s Fall Leadership Roundtable will explore the impacts of the credit crunch on the energy market and identify competitive, market-based energy policies at the state and national level that can help strengthen local, regional and national economies,” Goodman added.

The NEM Leadership Roundtable attendees will include New York Public Service Commission (NYPSC) Chairman Garry Brown, NYPSC Commissioner Robert Curry, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) Commissioner Nicholas Asselta, NJBPU Commissioner Frederick Butler, Delaware State Senator Harris McDowell, as well as Eric Matheson, Energy Advisor to Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Chair Cawley, Angelina LaRose, Office of Oil and Gas/Energy Information Administration, and CEOs of NEM Executive Committee Members.

The NEM Leadership Roundtable will held on October 28-29, 2008, at IDT Energy headquarters in Newark, New Jersey. A reception sponsored by Global Contact Services will be held the evening of October 28th.

NEM is a national, non-profit trade association representing both leading suppliers and major consumers of natural gas and electricity as well as energy-related products, services, information and advanced technologies throughout the United States, Canada and the European Union.
