Washington Gas Employees Bring “Project Weatherization” to Senior Residents in Arlington, Virginia
On Saturday, November 1, Washington Gas employee volunteers will collaborate with Fresh AIRE – Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions – in the third annual “Project Weatherization” program. AIRE, which serves the needs of senior residents in Arlington County, will assist 60 Washington Gas employee volunteers to prepare 30 homes for winter.
“Through this collaboration, Washington Gas and AIRE are providing homeowners with the tools they need to use energy wisely,” said Roberta Willis Sims, Vice President of Corporate Relations for Washington Gas. “Many residents need these weatherization measures because their homes are not prepared for the winter. Thanks to the hard work of our employee volunteers, these simple and effective techniques will help keep out the cold and reduce the amount of heat escaping from the homes.”
The project addresses energy efficiency in the home and how to offset the rising cost of energy. Washington Gas employee volunteers will install inexpensive energy efficient measures such as caulking, weather-stripping windows and doors, installing low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators as well as taping cracked windows.
“Project Weatherization is an excellent opportunity to provide a much needed service to our community while introducing more Arlingtonians to the economic and environmental benefits of energy efficiency. Arlington County is delighted to partner with Washington Gas to support local homeowners and promote both a sense of community pride and environmental awareness,” said Arlington County Board Chairman Mr. J. Walter Tejada.
