South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Tuesday it plans a commercial version of its hydrogen fuel-cell car by 2012.
The company said it will add resources into research and development to meet its target but gave no other details, Yonhap reported.
The report said company officials weren't available for comment. However, it quoted analysts as saying the market for electric vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel may not take off anytime soon because of equipment difficulties.
Analysts also noted such cars will cost more than other types of hybrids and electric cars.
Hyundai plans to introduce its first gas-electric hybrid based on its Avante compact car next year, the report said.
