Arch Coal on Track for Record Profits in 2008, an Industrial Info News Alert

Because of a large number of acquisitions made in 2007, the company's net income more than tripled year over year, from $27.3 million in 3Q07 to $97.8 million in 3Q08. "All operating regions contributed to this success," said Chairman and CEO Steven Leer, "particularly central Appalachia, whose per-ton operating margin expanded nearly ninefold from the year-ago quarter."
