CNPC Begins Construction of Joint Venture Refinery in Chad

The China National Petroleum Corporation and the Chadian government have begun construction of a joint venture refinery in N’Djamena, Chad.

The refinery, in which the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) owns a 60% interest and the Chadian state owns 40%, is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2011.

The refinery is designed to process 2.5 million tons of crude oil per year. The first phase of the project will have an annual processing capacity of one million tons, producing 700,000 tons of gasoline and diesel, 20,000 tons of kerosene, 25,000 tons of polypropylene, 60,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas and 40,000 tons of fuel oil.
