Swiss power and automation group ABB has won a $34-million order from Azerbaijan’s state power utility, AzerEnerji, to supply turnkey substations and power systems that will ensure reliable power for the metal industry in the Gyandja City in the northwest of the country.

ABB will deliver air- and gas-insulated substations and two units of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), as well as breakers, instrument transformers and surge arresters, and a MicroSCADA supervisory control and data acquisition system that will monitor and control the substations.

The order was booked in June 2008, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2008. ABB will be responsible for installation and the commissioning, which is planned for April 2009.

Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s power systems division, said: “ABB recently completed a substation delivery for AzerEnerji, and we are pleased to have been entrusted with another order. Our technologies will help to support the expansion of local metals production by ensuring a reliable supply of power.”
