Vestas to Invest E10 Million in Viveiro Generator Facility

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has announced that it will invest approximately E10 million in Viveiro in the Spanish province of Lugo to establish local production of generators to complement the previously announced expansion of its nacelle assembly plant in the neighboring province of Leon.

When the investment is complete, the factory in Viveiro will produce 2MW generators for the V90-2MW turbine. The generator is one of the key turbine components, as it is designed to convert the mechanical energy from the blades into electrical energy. Each generator weighs around seven tons and consists of around 400 components.

Soren Husted, president of Vestas Nacelles, said: "Vestas has two generator factories in the world, one in Germany and one in China. The new factory in Viveiro in Lugo will be an important contribution to Vestas's global generator production capacity. This factory will support directly the production capacity of the nacelle factory in Leon, which is currently under extension."
