E.ON Ruhrgas, Swissgas Sign Gas Delivery Contract

E.ON Ruhrgas and Swiss natural gas buyers' consortium Swissgas have signed a contract for gas deliveries until 2015.

The contractual supply volume has been fixed at 10TWh per annum, from October 1, 2010 onwards. From 2010, the deliveries will cover almost a third of Switzerland's annual gas needs.

Henning Deters, chief sales officer of E.ON Ruhrgas, said: "By signing the contract, Swissgas has made it possible for Switzerland to diversify its supply portfolio further and also to respond to market changes at short notice. E.ON Ruhrgas has a diversified gas portfolio with supplies from six countries. Long-term supply contracts ensure reliability and security of supply."

Rudi Rohrbach, managing director of Swissgas, said: "With this new contract concluded after intensive negotiations, we are even better able to ensure gas supplies for Switzerland in line with demand and at competitive prices."

The negotiations with various suppliers ultimately showed that E.ON Ruhrgas best met the requirements, Mr Rohrbach has said. Swissgas is a non-profit buyers' consortium of four Swiss regional suppliers, representing virtually all local gas supply companies in Switzerland.
