Stream Energy Announces H.E.A.T. Georgia Donation
Stream Energy, which entered the natural gas market in Georgia last spring, has made a donation to H.E.A.T., the Heating Energy Assistance Team, based in Atlanta. H.E.A.T. is a non-profit organization which has helped low-income and elderly Georgians with their heating bills for 25 years.
"We are pleased to welcome Stream Energy to the H.E.A.T. effort," said H.E.A.T. Executive Director Janet Joseph. She added, "Stream's support as a partner will help H.E.A.T. provide much needed energy assistance to our less fortunate neighbors. We are very gratified that the company has joined us so soon after entering the Georgia market."Upon announcing the $7,500 donation to H.E.A.T., Stream Energy co-founder Chris Domhoff said, "We are proud to show our support for the Georgia community, especially as this year's winter months approach and the need for heating service increases."
Stream Energy provides natural gas to customers within the Atlanta Gas Light service area, including such cities as Atlanta, Savannah, Macon, Athens, Rome, Valdosta, Augusta and Brunswick. Stream Energy and its marketing arm, Ignite, have been signing up natural gas customers in Georgia since April 2008.
This announcement is the latest example of Stream Energy's commitment to the communities it serves. Following recent Gulf Coast hurricanes, the company announced a moratorium on late fees and cut-offs for affected electric customers. In addition, the company provided flexibility with customer disconnections during the heavy-electric usage portion of the 2008 Texas summer. Stream Energy provides electricity to customers in Texas.
H.E.A.T. is the oldest statewide fuel fund program in Georgia. H.E.A.T. funds are distributed by the Georgia Department of Human Resources through local community action agencies. During 2007, H.E.A.T. disbursed more than $700,000 to 2,854 households. The families who were assisted included the elderly, the disabled and families with children.
