Eneco has submitted a permit request and an environmental impact assessment for the construction of an offshore wind farm in block Q10 in the North Sea.
Eneco's new division New Energy has submitted the documents recently. In June 2008, Eneco already submitted a permit request for the construction of the Callantsoog-North wind farm.
Eneco intends to increase the amount of energy generated by wind turbines at a rapid pace and hopes to acquire permits for the expansion of the number of wind turbines at sea in 2009 on the basis of these requests.
It intends to further develop the experience gained with the Princess Amalia wind farm, through the construction of more offshore wind farms. The Q10 wind farm is located 17km south of the Princess Amalia wind farm, at the same distance from the coast (23km) and at a similar water depth (20-25m), said Eneco.
The capacity to be installed amounts to more than 200MW, which is reportedly sufficient to supply electricity for nearly 200,000 households. If the permit is granted swiftly the wind farm can be operational in 2013, according to Eneco.
