Genscape Inc. Introduces Infrared Power Plant Monitoring

Posted on: Friday, 14 November 2008, 15:00 CST

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Genscape Inc., the nation's first and only supplier of real-time power plant output and transmission status information, is announcing the addition of infrared power plant monitoring to its suite of data services.

The service is based on technology that allows Genscape's customers to see in real-time a power plant's production. In addition to photos of monitored plants, customers will get a real-time data stream provided through the Genscape interface and data feed services. Genscape interprets the pictures to determine if the plant is running or not and estimates the megawatts being produced at the plant.

"This exciting new technology will allow Genscape to monitor plants in urban areas such as New York City, Houston, and southern California that have previously been underserved by Genscape," said Michael McAuliffe, Genscape's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Genscape acquired this technology with the purchase of EnvaPower in December of 2007.

"We are excited to bring even more valuable information to the U.S. energy markets with the launch of the infrared monitoring service. This advance adds value to our traditional services in the U.S. and enhances our ability to offer new data sources in other energy markets both in the U.S. and Europe," said Sean O'Leary, Genscape's CEO and Co-Founder.

Genscape Inc. is the originator of real-time power supply information to support decision-making for power marketers, regulators, utilities, distributors, and other energy market participants. In addition to real-time power flows, Genscape supplies data on the fundamentals of coal, gas, oil and emissions in the United States and Europe. Genscape's parent company is DMG Information, the information publishing division of the Daily Mail and General Trust plc.
