CHICAGO, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Illinois Farm Bureau members
attending this weekend’s annual meeting in Chicago will be asked to share
their 2009 planting intentions as part of a wide ranging survey of farmer
attendees.

“This is the first year that we will be asking our members to complete a
detailed survey to measure their attitudes and planting intentions for the
coming year,” said Illinois Farm Bureau President Philip Nelson, a Seneca,
Illinois
grain and livestock producer. “We think the survey results will tell
an interesting story and believe this exercise will become a regular feature
of our biggest meeting of the year.”

In addition to planting intentions for 2009, IFB members will be asked to
predict where corn and soybean prices will be next spring, specify increases
in their production costs and rate their level of concern on a number of
challenges faced by farmers.

More than 2,300 people are expected to attend the meeting which begins
Saturday, Dec. 6 and runs through Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the Hyatt Regency
Chicago, 151 East Wacker Drive, downtown Chicago.

Saturday night’s opening general session will feature speeches by Olympic
gold medal winning gymnast Shawn Johnson and Washington, D.C. political
columnist and Fox News commentator Morton Kondracke. Sandwiched between the
speakers will be an awards presentation recognizing this year’s program and
membership achievements of county Farm Bureaus.

Nelson’s annual address at 10 a.m. highlights Sunday’s general session
which also includes presentation of the association’s highest honors, the
Charles B. Shuman Distinguished Service Award and the IFB Eagle Award for
Excellence.

President Nelson will hold a news conference at 7:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8
which will be followed by delegate debate all day Monday and Tuesday morning
on 2008 Illinois Farm Bureau policy resolutions. The state’s largest general
farm organization ended the year with an all-time high in members of 420,271.
