Rugged, High-reliability Components Contribute to India’s First Scientific Mission to the Moon to Survey Lunar Surface

HUDSON, N.H., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, joins NASA, the European Space Agency and many world leaders in congratulating the India Space Research Organization (ISRO) for the successful launch, lunar landing and spectacular early images of the lunar surface. Though India has a long history in space, Chandrayaan is the country’s first mission beyond earth’s orbit. The unmanned vehicle will, over a two-year period, conduct mineralogical and chemical mapping of the lunar surface from 16 different remote sensing instruments developed both in India as well as with international partners. With the data collected from these instruments, a three-dimensional atlas of the lunar surface is envisioned. Vectron contributed to this mission by fitting the vehicle with several of its custom-designed temperature controlled crystal oscillators (TCXOs), especially suited for harsh environments and high reliability.

“It is exciting to watch the remarkable success of this mission,” commented Greg Smolka, Vice President of Industrial, Military and Space Business at Vectron International. “The entire global space community eagerly awaits the images, data, 3D mapping and scientific information that will be generated from this mission. We congratulate the entire ISRO team on this incredible accomplishment.”

Vectron, a global leader in frequency control electronics, designs and manufactures high reliability electronic components for use in harsh environments, such as deep space exploration. For space applications, precision timing elements are typically used in data transmission and communications subsystems.
