At the summit in 2006, at which Russia will be presiding, it may propose energy security as a subject for discussion. "During Russia's chairmanship, energy security could become one of the priority subjects of the G8," Putin stated. He does not doubt that "experience accumulated during the Russia-EU energy dialogue will be used in preparation for events dedicated to that subject".
The president said that issues related to the forthcoming G8 summit in Scotland on 6-8 July were discussed during the meeting with [French President Jacques] Chirac and [German Chancellor Gerhard] Schroeder [in Svetlogorsk today]. "We are satisfied with cooperation with the French and German colleagues on the G8. We hope that our delegations will cooperate even more productively next year, when the G8 chairmanship passes to Russia," he noted. [Passage omitted]
