Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air Suspend Seattle and Portland Flights Due to Severe Winter Weather in Pacific Northwest

SEATTLE, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air announced they have suspended service to and from Portland, Ore., and Seattle for remainder of the day due to severe winter weather and deteriorating conditions at both airports. The snow and freezing rain that hit the region starting last week have severely impacted the airlines' operations.

"We regret the impact these cancellations are having on our customers' holiday travel plans," said Ben Minicucci, Alaska Airlines' chief operating officer. "These decisions are guided by our commitment to safety, and we are making every effort to re-accommodate passengers whose flight schedules have been disrupted."

"In addition to helping inconvenienced passengers, we will focus on preparing our operations to have the best start possible Monday morning, weather permitting," said Tom Gerharter, senior vice president of Horizon Air operations.

Passengers booked on a canceled flight may re-book on the next available flight without penalty or apply for a full refund of the unused portion of their ticket. Passengers wishing to exercise either of these options should call Alaska Airlines Reservations at 1-800-252-7522 or Horizon Air Reservations at 1-800-547-9308.
