Energizer Donates 80,000 Batteries to Power Charity Toy Drives This Holiday Season

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The holidays are nearly here. It seems the closer we get to Christmas the more media reports there are about the gap between charitable organizations' ability to collect gifts for needy families and the growing number of requests they receive for them.

To help ease the strain this season, St. Louis-based Energizer Battery Company is powering the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves 61st annual Toys for Tots toy drive by donating more than 50,000 Energizer(R) AA batteries to the campaign.

In addition to the batteries, Energizer is donating more than 240,000 character wind-up toys to Toys for Tots as stocking stuffers. Toys for Tots will distribute the batteries and toys across the country to families in need so that their children can receive holiday gifts.

Energizer is also donating 30,000 AAA batteries to assist the efforts of the Los Angeles Fire Department's Spark of Love Toy drive.

"We are thankful to partner with Energizer this holiday season. Especially in this economy, their generosity will help fulfill the holiday wishes of many needy children this season throughout the United States," said retired Marine Corps Major Bill Grein, Vice President of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

"Energizer's battery donation will assure long-lasting joy to children who would have gone without a functioning gift this holiday season," said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

"We know that times are tough for families this Christmas and we want to help these charities reach as many children as possible," says Betsy Laakko, Director of Marketing at Energizer. "We want to eliminate the frustration of opening a present only to find that the batteries aren't included. This donation will allow kids to open their presents and play with them right away."
