British retailers order Colgate recall

Two British retail groups announced the recall of thousands of counterfeit Colgate toothpaste products.

The Boots Group and Sainsbury's said while the fake Colgate products do not represent a public health risk, thousands of tubes will be recalled for not being a genuine Colgate product, The Daily Telegraph said Wednesday.

We believe there are no health risks associated with using the counterfeit toothpaste but, as it is not a genuine Colgate product, we removed the affected tubes from our stores immediately, a Sainsbury's spokesman said.

We take the health and well-being of our customers extremely seriously, a Boots spokeswoman said. As soon as we were made aware of a possible issue with this product, it was immediately withdrawn from sale.

The Daily Mail said both retail chains posted signs regarding the counterfeit Colgate Cavity Protection items and Sainsbury's was investigating how the products made it to store shelves.
