In name, Alitalia will fly again

December 30, 2008

The group that purchased collapsed Italian airline Alitalia said it had adopted the defunct airline’s name, uniform and logo Tuesday.

The Compagnia Aerea Italiana changed its name to Alitalia and said it would be ready for business Jan. 13, ANSA reported.

The company must first find a strategic foreign partner — most likely Air France-KLM or Lufthansa, ANSA said ““ and incorporate its operations with those of Air One, owned by CAI founder Carlo Toto.

CAI, now known as Alitalia, named Piaggio Chairman Roberto Colaninno as its chairman, who then named Piaggio Chief Executive Officer Rocco Sabelli as the airline’s CEO.
