January 13, 2009 Meeting to Focus on Regional Development

DETROIT, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Detroit Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), in connection with the Institute of Management Accountants, will hold our first meeting of 2009 on January 13, featuring Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano. Mr. Ficano will share the strategy to leverage our world-class dual airport system and the region's strong geographic and manufacturing-based assets into the Detroit Region Aerotropolis. Immediately following Mr. Ficano, Gary Corbin, representing the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, will discuss how the Translinked project, introduced at the 2008 Mackinac Policy Conference, will foster the creation of a comprehensive transportation vision with prime access to North American and global trade for the Detroit region.

"For the past several months our attention has been focused on the credit crises, job losses, and other dreary realities," noted Mark Weintraub, President of the Detroit Chapter. "Going into 2009, we felt it appropriate to provide a forum to discuss some of the many positive initiatives underway in Southeast Michigan."

The meeting begins at 4:00 p.m., includes dinner, and is being held at VisTaTech Center located at 18600 Haggerty Road in Livonia, Michigan. For registration and other information please contact us at 866-895-1851, email us at chapteradmin@detroitiia.org or visit www.detroitiia.org.

Serving members in 165 countries, The IIA is the internal audit profession's global voice, chief advocate, recognized authority, acknowledged leader, and principal educator. The Detroit Chapter of IIA, founded in 1942, is the second oldest and, with more than 1500 members, one of the ten largest IIA chapters in North America.
