Dell Inc. to close plant in Ireland
Texas computer giant Dell Inc. said Thursday it would shutter a plant in Ireland and switch its European production base to Poland.
The move to Poland’s newer Dell production facility means the loss of 1,900 jobs in Ireland, a country where technology companies have initiated several cutbacks recently, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported.
The decision to move was
difficult “¦ but the right one for Dell, said Sean Corkery, vice president of operations at Dell’s factory in Limerick, Ireland.
Dell will keep 1,100 jobs in Ireland to coordinate manufacturing and continue with research and development, the newspaper said.
