BURLINGAME, Calif., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ — Under contract with the Air
Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE), ECC was awarded a
$117 million design-build project to construct the Medical Education Training
Complex (METC) Medical Instructional Facilities (MIF) Building 3 and Building
4 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

The project, jointly supervised by AFCEE and the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, is one of the largest U.S. design-build task orders issued in
AFCEE’s history. MIF Buildings 3 and 4 encompass 420,000 square feet, and
represent the largest facilities included within the entire METC. The
facilities are being designed and constructed to meet LEED Silver
requirements.

The entire 5-building, 700,000-square-foot METC campus will serve as the
largest institution in the world dedicated to tri-services medical training
and education. It will centralize Army, Navy, and Air Force basic and
specialty enlisted medical training.

ECC is the prime contractor and construction manager for the project with
two primary teaming partners Burns and McDonnell and Satterfield & Pontikes
Construction, Inc. Burns and McDonnell, responsible for architecture and
design elements on the project, will lead the design team, which includes San
Antonio
-based firms Rehler Vaugh & Kooney, Inc. and Jaster-Quintanilla.
Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc will be the general contractor.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for our team,” says Manjiv S. Vohra,
PE, ECC’s President and CEO. “We have developed a sustainable and functionally
efficient building design, which will allow us to construct a superior
learning environment for our future tri-services medical professionals.”

The buildings resonate with Fort Sam Houston’s sense of place and history
while offering vision toward its future of medical training. This fast-track
project is scheduled for completion in October 2010.

Established in 1985, ECC provides a range of services to support our
clients’ missions, including construction, design-build, and environmental
remediation services. ECC serves U.S. government agencies, including the Army,
Air Force, Navy, Department of State, and Department of Energy.
