LINCOLN, Neb., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ — The Windstream Yellow Pages are
going green with the help of Lincoln residents. The company is kicking off the
second annual campaign, “Lincoln Recycles — Think Yellow Go Green.” The only
phone directory recycling program in Lincoln, the month-long initiative
encourages residents to recycle their outdated and extra phone directories.

Beginning Jan. 5, 2009, directories will be accepted at Air Park West
Recreation Center, Auld Recreation Center, Belmont Recreation Center,
Easterday Recreation Center, F Street Recreation Center, Irving Recreation
Center and the Outdoor Education Center / Boy Scout Office. Directories can
also be recycled through the local Boy Scouts of America. Local troops will be
collecting directories to fulfill requirements toward qualification for the
World Conservation Award.

“More than 500 phone directories were recycled during the 2008 program,”
said Todd Jankowski, field marketing manager. “This year we’re challenging
residents to recycle two tons of outdated directories to make this year’s
recycling program an even bigger success.”

“Think Yellow, Go Green” will hold special collection drives on Saturday,
Jan. 31, 2009
and Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009. On Jan. 31, 2009, KFGE-FM will be at
Belmont Recreation Center from 12 to 2 p.m. On Feb. 7, 2009, KIBZ-FM will be
at Irving Recreation Center from 12 to 2 p.m. The first 500 residents who
bring their outdated directories to the drives will receive an eco-friendly
shopping bag.

In addition to outdated Windstream Yellow Pages, new or outdated
directories from other manufacturers will be accepted for collection.
Windstream Yellow Pages and the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department have
partnered with a specialty recycler, Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska, Inc.
Because not every recycler accepts every type of paper, directories should be
dropped off at the identified collection points or with Boys Scouts to ensure
they’re recycled properly.

The program is specific to phone directory recycling, so all other paper
materials should be recycled in accordance with local recycling services.

“By recycling the directories, the end product may be used in the future
for home insulation, as well as mulch for new grass seeding,” said Chris Zegar of Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska. “In other cases, recycled directories
are used to create new directories.”
