Winter economy leaves Florida flat
Flights from the cold-weather north to the sunny climate of Florida appear to be taking a recession-based breather, industry observers said.
Typically, the colder it gets, the bigger bump we'd see, James Angel, sales director at the Mayfair Hotel & Spa in Coconut Grove, Fla., told The Miami Herald.
We're just not seeing it now, he said.
The slump in hotel bookings has prompted the Greater Miami tourism bureau to initiate a winter marketing campaign, using dollars normally reserved for summer advertising, the newspaper said.
The logic: Winter weather is a massive subliminal advertising campaign that works well enough on its own. The bureau, therefore, concentrates its advertising for Florida vacations during the summer, the newspaper said.
