Giant Bicycle 2009 model bikes recalled

January 20, 2009

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of two models of Giant Bicycle bikes due to the possibility of weak front forks.

The density of the steerer tubes can cause the forks to crack and break, possibly resulting in a fall for the rider, the commission said.

About 1,000 of the bikes made in Taiwan imported by Giant Bikes of Newbury Park, Calif., and sold nationwide from August 2008 through December 2008 for between $3,300 and $7,500.

The recall involves various 2009 TCR Advanced SL Team and SL (ISP) model bicycles and frames, the Commission said.

The words Giant and TCR Advanced SL are printed on the frames, which come in silver, charcoal, blue and red.

Consumers were advised to stop using the bicycles immediately and contact Giant Bicycle for a free inspection and replacement fork.

Consumers can call 866-458-2555 for information.
