Oil & Gas Industry Gathers to Discuss Offshore Exploration & Production

HOUSTON, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Leaders from around the world will gather in New Orleans Feb. 3 - 5 at the Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) International Conference & Exhibition to discuss new innovation, equipment, and solutions for the challenges of deepwater exploration and production. The conference will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Mr. Mike Loveland, Deepwater Venture Leader for Shell E&P Company, will open the conference with a 25-year review of deep offshore exploration and production operations. Mr. Loveland has over 20 years production experience and has been involved in almost all of Shell's deepwater projects. His perspective will discuss governmental and regulatory issues and his forecast for deepwater exploration and production worldwide.

Following Mr. Loveland, Ted Falgout, Executive Director of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, will speak about the Port Fourchon Model and the issues of establishing onshore logistical support for all offshore oil and gas activities. The Port Commission is the management and governing body of one of the most significant oil and gas logistical support bases in the United Sates - Port Fourchon. Mr. Falgout has overseen the development of the port form an informal place to tip up shrimp boats to one of the largest and most strategically and economically important oil and gas logistical centers. Port Fourchon plays a key role in furnishing 15 - 18% of the national total oil supply and services over 90% of the Gulf of Mexico's deepwater oil production activities.

In addition to the seventy-plus papers being presented at the conference, there will be two panel discussions tied to the development of the US Outer Continental Shelf. The first panel discussion focuses on the pros and cons of opening more areas of the US Outer Continental Shelf to oil and gas exploration and production. Panelists include Dr. David Dismukes, Associate Director and Professor at the Center for Energy Studies at Louisiana State University; Thomas Pyle, President of the Institute for Energy Research; J.P. Cheviere of Transmar Consult, Ltd and Sidney Coffee of the WETLAND Foundation.

The second panel discussion focuses on US OCS Energy Potential and the need for supporting infrastructure. Panelists include Dr. Loren C. Scott, President Loren C. Scott & Associates; Michael Lynch, President and Director of Global Petroleum Service - Strategic Energy & Economic Research Inc. (SEER); Will Rowley, Director of Analytical Services - Energy Analysts Infield Systems; and Mark Hurley, President Shell Pipeline.
