Mobile Satellite Users Association Solicits Nominations for Innovation and Pioneer Awards

MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mobile Satellite Users Association announced today that it is now accepting nominations for mobile satellite innovations and for pioneers who made significant contributions to the industry. Winners will be announced at MSUA-6, its upcoming conference and exhibition, March 25-27, 2009 in Washington, DC. The MSUA-6 conference is being held in conjunction with Satellite 2009, the premier satellite industry conference and exhibition, and will feature a luncheon sponsored by Inmarsat on Wednesday, March 25, at which the awards will be presented.

"Last year for the first time, MSUA conferred an MSS Innovation Award, which was presented to the developers of the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), Alan Howell and Marcus Vilaca, in recognition of the dramatically enhanced services that BGAN makes possible," explained Bob Roe, Chairman of the MSUA, and President, Stratos Government Services, Inc. "This year we are again seeking nominations from across the MSS industry and are looking forward to selecting an equally worthy recipient."

Tim Farrar, MSUA President, noted that "Last year, MSS Pioneer Awards were made to both the inventors of the Iridium satellite system, Bary Bertiger, Raymond Leopold and Kenneth Peterson, and the inventor of the Globalstar system, Robert Wiedeman. These individuals exemplified the forward thinking and technical leadership that has characterized the mobile satellite industry for over 30 years."

Past recipients of the Pioneer Award include Edward J. Martin and George Tellmann, who were instrumental in the establishment of Inmarsat in the 1980s; Lars and Per Thrane, for establishing Thrane & Thrane, an industry leader in mobile satellite terminals; and Dick Tauber of Cable News Network (CNN) and Jane Holmes of National Public Radio for their early and enduring use of mobile satellite terminals in news reporting.

Nominations for both the Innovation and Pioneer Awards can be made at http://www.satellite2009.com/msua-6/pioneer_innovator.html and must be received by midnight on February 13, 2009.
