Caterpillar Inc. announces more layoffs
U.S. heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. says it will lay off an additional 2,110 workers after earlier disclosing 20,000 jobs were being cut.
The Peoria, Ill., company said in a statement issued Friday that its three Illinois plants will absorb the new cuts in order to
bring production levels in line with current demand, The Chicago Tribune reported.
Workers getting pink slips include 500 employees at Caterpillar's Aurora, Ill., facility, which makes wheel-loaders and hydraulic excavators, as well as 1,026 production employees at its Decatur, Ill., plant, where off-highway trucks and other construction equipment is manufactured.
Also on the chopping block are 584 workers in Caterpillar's East Peoria, Ill., plant, where the company manufactures track-type tractors, the newspaper said.
The layoffs at the three plants will begin on April 13, the company indicated.
