February 3, 2009
Repost This

CHICAGO, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ — As February’s American Heart Month takes
center stage, Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Jiffy Lube — a second-year
partner with the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women(TM) campaign –
reminds everyone to ‘take to heart’ this month’s important events aimed at
raising awareness about the realities of heart disease, the nation’s leading
killer of women.

Friday, February 6 is National Wear Red Day. Everyone can support the
fight against heart disease in women by wearing red. According to the American
Heart Association, “It’s a simple, powerful way to raise awareness of heart
disease and stroke.”

Saturday, February 7, Go Red For Women(TM) will hold casting calls
nationwide for real women to tell their stories of the choices they’ve made to
live a heart-healthy life and improve their well-being. Finalists will be
selected from these calls to represent Go Red For Women(TM) in its upcoming
2009-2010 marketing campaign, possibly including its second NBC-TV special on
women and heart disease. The Chicago area casting call will be held at the
Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (For more
information on casting call locations, visit http://www.GoRedForWomen.org.)

Finally, Chicago and Northwest Indiana Jiffy Lube customers can support
the Go Red For Women(TM) campaign with a donation of $3 at participating
locations through March 16, for which they will receive a Jiffy Lube
Maintenance Partners for Life (MPFL) savings book containing heart healthy
recipes and $100 in savings from Jiffy Lube. Each $3 MPFL contribution made
during the campaign, either online or at participating service centers, will
be donated in full to Go Red For Women(TM).

Prevalence of Heart Disease

Nearly 2,400 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day — an
average of one death every 37 seconds. Heart disease is the nation’s number
one killer of men and women. Yet, despite more women dying of heart disease
than the next five causes of death combined, only 21 percent of women view
heart disease as their greatest health threat.
