The utility serves more than 1.4 million customers, including more than 200,000 commercial and industrial customers, in the Carolinas.

J.D. Power's 2009 business customer satisfaction survey included more than 15,400 business customers who spend between $500 and $50,000 per month with their electric utility. The business survey included 90 utilities, ranging in size from major investor-owned operating companies to municipally owned distribution utilities.

"In a time of rising price, it is more important than ever that we provide a level of service that meets and exceeds our customers' expectations," said Lloyd Yates, president and CEO of Progress Energy Carolinas. "These results confirm that we're focused on the things that matter to our customers and that we're working hard to provide real value every day."

The business survey based the overall ranking on six satisfaction factors: power quality & reliability, customer service, corporate citizenship, billing & payment, price and communications. For more information on the survey and the rankings, visit www.JDPower.com.
