Veteran Washington D.C. Energy Policy Expert to Oversee ACCCE’s Federal Lobbying and Policy Development Initiatives

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ — The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, (ACCCE), today named Paul Bailey as Senior Vice President for Federal Affairs. Bailey will lead ACCCE’s federal lobbying efforts as well as oversee the coalition’s policy initiatives.

“There is an exciting and worthy conversation going on, with policy makers discussing policies that will invest in new technologies to create jobs, promote energy independence, ensure access to affordable and reliable energy, and meet more stringent environmental standards – including the capture and storage of greenhouse gas emissions,” said Steve Miller, President and CEO of ACCCE. “Paul truly understands the complexity and the opportunity associated with this policy discussion and he is the right addition to our team to be sure that America’s coal-based electricity sector has a voice in this debate.”

ACCCE’s primary policy objectives are to ensure funding for government-industry partnerships that will bring the next generation of clean coal technologies to the marketplace (technologies that will capture and store CO2) and support a mandatory program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that also promotes energy independence, creates jobs and ensures access to affordable and reliable energy for American businesses and working families.

“Throughout his career Paul Bailey has demonstrated that he understands ACCCE’s belief that our country’s energy, environment and economy are inextricably linked. We are proud that he has decided to lead our federal government affairs’ efforts in ensuring coal, our most abundant domestic resource, will continue to play a significant role as a part of a balanced energy portfolio that will fuel America’s energy future,” Miller concluded.

Bailey’s career has covered over three decades of public and private sector experience with environmental and energy issues. He worked as a nuclear engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory before he began a career with The Southern Company as a nuclear licensing engineer, later becoming a governmental affairs director in Washington, D.C.

Bailey served as a political appointee in the George H.W. Bush Administration at the Department of Energy, where he was appointed to the positions of Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy, Director of the Office of Planning and Environment, and Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary.

Bailey also served as the Director of Environment, Health and Safety at the American Petroleum Institute (API) and Vice President of Environmental Affairs at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). Later, Bailey joined Natsource, LLC as a Managing Director, where he provided risk management and policy advice to multinational corporations, domestic companies and foreign governments.

Bailey joins ACCCE from the Keelan Group, LLC where he was a senior advisor and provided political and policy counsel to a wide range of clients, including a number of large electric generating companies. In May 2007, The Hill selected Bailey as one of the “top lobbyists” in Washington.

Bailey holds a BS from Birmingham-Southern College and an MS from Vanderbilt University. Also, he is a graduate of the Stanford University Business School’s Executive Management Program.
