First Ever ‘Warmathon’ Enters its 20th Hour!

KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund are Helping Low-Income Families Stay Warm

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ — The first ever NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund enters its twentieth hour! The Warmathon, a 30-hour live broadcast from the PPG Wintergarden on February 12-13, 2009, continues to work toward meeting its goal of raising enough funds to help 1500 Pittsburgh area families maintain basic utility service.

“I challenge the Pittsburgh community to help us Spread the Warmth to more than 1500 low-income families,” said Cindy Datig, chief executive officer of Dollar Energy Fund.

All Pittsburghers are invited to join KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund along with local utilities, including Allegheny Power, Dominion Peoples, Duquesne Light and Equitable Gas, other sponsors and volunteers at the PPG Wintergarden for final 10 hours of the Warmathon.

The PPG Wintergarden in Downtown Pittsburgh has been buzzing since 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12th. Volunteers have been ‘Pedaling for Power’ and have kept a bulb powered by a stationary bike lit for almost 20 hours, with 10 more to go!

Support the Warmathon in its final hours and make sure the goal of keeping 1500 low-income Pittsburgh families warm is met. Since 1983, Dollar Energy Fund has helped low-income families and senior citizens on fixed incomes maintain or restore utility service through smart, efficient programs including emergency assistance, payment counseling and weatherization. The first ever NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund will raise funds to support the organization’s Hardship Program, a utility assistance program that provides grants to low-income households.
