Nonprofit Soldiers' Angels Receives $105,000 Grant for Military Support

Posted on: Wednesday, 25 February 2009, 03:30 CST

Funds from The Dallas Foundation will expand support for military and families in Texas.

PASADENA, Calif., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Soldiers' Angels recently received a boost to its wide-ranging support for soldiers and their families in the North Texas area from The Dallas Foundation, which awarded the organization a $105,000 grant from its Texas Resource Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment (TRIAD) fund.

As fighting in Afghanistan intensifies and the American military presence in Iraq continues, the need for a wide variety of assistance for service members remains strong. Soldiers' Angels is striving to meet that need with a worldwide army of volunteers and a reputation for supporting soldiers and families in a wide variety of substantial ways. The TRIAD grant will allow the organization to continue its powerful efforts.

Soldiers' Angels founder Patti Patton-Bader is happy to receive the generous TRIAD grant in this time of economic challenge. "Thank goodness for foundations like this helping us to help heroes," she says. "We are forever grateful to The Dallas Foundation for supporting our mission of ensuring that 'No Soldier Go Unloved.'"

Grant writer Sheryl Walker concurs, "We welcome this opportunity and are tremendously thrilled to work side by side with The Dallas Foundation. This grant will enable us to increase and expand our services to all the great men and women from Texas who serve on our behalf."

Funds from the grant will be applied to over a half-dozen of the thirty different projects Soldiers' Angels administers in support of active duty personnel, veterans and military families: $35,000 for general/emergency assistance to soldiers and families; $30,000 for projects supporting wounded soldiers, such as First Response Backpacks; $10,000 for Tank Support, which assists veterans with the cost of driving to VA hospitals for appointments and therapies; $5,000 for restaurant gift cards for families or veterans visiting a VA medical facility for extended treatment away from home, and $25,000 for care packages sent to soldiers deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. All funds will be applied in North Texas, focusing on Dallas and Ft. Hood.
