Deloitte Opens Center for Energy Solutions, Demonstrates Strength in Oil and Gas Sector

Posted on: Thursday, 26 February 2009, 12:00 CST

HOUSTON, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Signaling its continued momentum in the energy sector, Deloitte today opened the Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions at the company's Houston office. The Center will also conduct many of its activities in Washington, D.C.

Perched on the 45th floor of the Heritage Plaza skyscraper, overlooking downtown Houston and its array of global energy companies, the new 12,000 square-foot facility will serve as the home base for Deloitte's almost 500 Houston-based energy professionals -- allowing them to participate in hands-on collaboration with clients of all sizes, especially oil and gas companies operating out of Texas.

"Deloitte has spent the past several years making a significant investment in our energy practice," said Greg Aliff, U.S. Energy & Resources leader, Deloitte. "Our new Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions is a true milestone in this effort -- ensuring that we can provide our energy clients with a host of professional services, from technology integration and operational consulting to our full range of tax, financial advisory and attest services."

Aliff went on to point out that the Energy Center is a resource for any type of company that has an energy-related challenge. In addition to functioning as what he called a "practical hub for innovative solutions," Deloitte will use the space to conduct executive and industry programs, including dialogs and roundtables that take advantage of the Energy Center's conference and meeting facilities, which can accommodate as many as 125 professionals in a classroom format and more than 200 professionals in a reception environment. Deloitte will also issue a range of research and viewpoint papers from the facility.

Recognizing the increasingly global nature of the energy business, Deloitte has also included a state-of-the-art video conference suite in the Energy Center, allowing its clients to discuss topical issues with Deloitte's subject matter specialists and other industry peers around the world, from Canada to Africa to the Middle East and Asia. Further, Deloitte has included a Derivatives Pricing Center within the facility, providing its clients with detailed and timely intelligence on energy derivatives.

"Deloitte specializes in helping our global clients create innovative and executable strategies," said Gary Adams, Oil & Gas leader, Deloitte. "Our new Energy Center will allow us to continue our proven track record of providing complete solutions for a complex industry."

Deloitte LLP's vice chairman and regional managing principal based in Houston, Anne Taylor, echoes this sentiment: "Our broad ability to address the complex issues facing the oil and gas industry has been the foundation for our double-digit growth in Houston over the last three years. Opening the Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions demonstrates that we recognize the continued opportunities for innovation in this key industry sector."

Deloitte will inaugurate its Houston facility tonight at a launch event featuring Texas Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones, who will offer her perspective on what the energy industry can expect from federal and state officials in the coming months.

Also in attendance will be Dr. Joseph A. Stanislaw, independent senior advisor to Deloitte and founder of the advisory firm The JAStanislaw Group. Stanislaw is also the co-founder and former president and chief executive officer of Cambridge Energy Research Associates, or CERA. He will be joined at the event by Branko Terzic, Energy & Resources regulatory policy leader for Deloitte and a former commissioner with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
