Wines of Italy to be Featured at First On-Site Pennsylvania Wine & Spirits Store at the Philadelphia Flower Show

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will partner for the first time with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to operate an Italian-themed Wine & Spirits store at the 2009 Philadelphia Flower Show, March 1-8 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

The store will carry more than 100 Italian wines and liqueurs, in keeping with this year's Flower Show theme, "Bella Italia."

"We're so proud to be part of the beloved and world-renowned tradition of the Philadelphia Flower Show," said Patrick "P.J." Stapleton III, chairman of the PLCB. "It's especially appropriate that we participate this year, when we can showcase many of the best Italian wines available in Pennsylvania."

Tastings will be held every day at the Flower Show, offering attendees age 21 and over a complimentary sampling of many of the wines available for purchase.

On Saturday, March 7, from 3-5 p.m., actor Danny DeVito will be on hand to offer tastes of his premium limoncello - the classic Italian after-dinner drink - and sign bottles for purchasers. DeVito stars in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" on FX.

The PLCB's on-site store will be part of the Flower Show's Piazza Italia, a gathering place on the Convention Center Bridge where several vendors will supply a variety of Italian foods and gourmet products. Wines will be priced from $7.99 to $77.99.

"Our store will offer some of Italy's best-known wines, such as Chianti Classico and Pinot Grigio, as well as an exciting variety of wines that could be new discoveries for Flower Show fans," said James Short, PLCB director of marketing. "We hope the gardens of Italy will inspire visitors to try a sparkling Prosecco, a crisp white Falanghina or a big, rich Amarone."

The PLCB stocks and staffs temporary, on-site Wine & Spirits stores at a number of major food and wine events around Pennsylvania, including, locally, the Philadelphia Wine Festival, to be held this year on May 2, and the Philadelphia Whiskey Festival. An expert team of PLCB wine specialists will be available at the Flower Show store to assist shoppers with wine recommendations and suggested food pairings.
