Comcast's ON DEMAND Service to include profiles of Sacramento's 'Most Wanted' and information about missing-persons cases

SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sacramento Police Department and Comcast today announced a public service initiative that will give area residents the opportunity to help the police locate fugitives from justice and to possibly provide vital information about missing-persons cases.

Police Blotter ON DEMAND will feature regularly updated video profiles of bank robbers, murder suspects and individuals from the Sacramento Police Department's "Most Wanted" list beginning today, giving residents in the Sacramento Capital Region an opportunity to anonymously help authorities by providing any known information or tips on the persons in question. The offering is available free of charge to Comcast Digital Cable customers throughout the company's Sacramento and North Valley Areas, which include Sacramento County, Davis, El Dorado Hills, Placerville, Roseville, Marysville, Yuba City, Grass Valley and Chico.

The Police Blotter ON DEMAND initiative was revealed at a press conference today featuring Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and representatives from the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, FBI, US Postal Inspectors and other local law enforcement agencies. The group announced several new features that have been added to the Sacramento Police Department's Crime Alert Program. Crime Alert is a non-profit organization which offers rewards to individuals who provide information that solves crimes or leads to the arrest of wanted subjects. One of the key elements of the Crime Alert program is the ability to remain anonymous. In addition to Police Blotter ON DEMAND, Crime Alert is adding the ability to report crime tips anonymously through the use of text paging and e-mails rather than the traditional method of calling in tips. "We're pleased to have Comcast join us in our crime fighting efforts by offering this unique service to its viewers and excited about the new technology that Crime Alert will be implementing to obtain more tips," said Sacramento Police Chief Rick Braziel.

Comcast Digital Cable customers in Sacramento and surrounding areas will be able to view Police Blotter video profiles any time of the day or night at no additional cost. The profiles, updated frequently, include information on how viewers with knowledge about the profiled individuals can contact the police anonymously. To view Police Blotter ON DEMAND, Comcast Digital Cable customers can tune to Channel 1 on their Digital Cable lineup or press the ON DEMAND button on their remote control, then click on the "Get Local" section.

"Police Blotter ON DEMAND is another way Comcast is using technology to make a positive difference," said Marty Robinson, Area Vice President and General Manager, Comcast Cable Sacramento. "Comcast is uniquely qualified to offer this type of local video on demand programming, and we are using our advanced fiber network and our reach to assist the communities in which we live and work."

Comcast's signature ON DEMAND service continues to be a one-stop destination for entertainment - from movies, music and top TV shows to the most popular kids, sports and lifestyle programs available anytime a customer wants to watch them with the ability to fast-forward, pause or rewind selections. Comcast's expanding ON DEMAND library today offers more than 10,000 programs throughout the course of a month, including more than 1,000 choices in HD available at any time - the vast majority of which are free.
