Hoover U.K. to close Wales plant
Hoover U.K. will close its factory in south Wales, cutting more than 300 jobs with the move, the electric goods manufacturer says.
Company officials said Friday Hoover will end production at the 60-year-old plant in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, where the company makes washing machines, washer/dryers and tumble dryers, The Daily Telegraph reported.
In a statement, Hoover officials said that despite extensive discussions and far-reaching analysis,
there was no escaping the conclusion that our Merthyr Tydfil manufacturing facility could not produce competitively priced laundry products.
A total of 337 of the 450 jobs at Merthyr Tydfil will be eliminated with the move, with the remaining workers to be transferred, the newspaper said.
