Poll: Trust runs along party lines
Results of a recent Gallup Poll survey indicate that Democrats and Republicans put their trust in different sectors when it comes to fixing the U.S. economy.
While a majority of respondents overall said they trusted the government to fix the financial crisis, party affiliations reveal very different philosophies, Gallup said Thursday.
In a recent poll, 64 percent of Republican respondents indicated they put more trust in business than government to fix the economy. Seventy-two percent of Democrats, however, indicated they trusted the government more than business.
The overall figure was slanted by the simple fact that there are more Democrats than Republicans in the country at this point, Gallup said.
Democrats were highly likely
to indicate government should do more, while Republicans were even more likely
to indicate government was doing too much already.
In the March 5-8 poll, 70 percent of the Republican respondents indicated the government had too much power, Gallup said.
The survey was based on interviews with 1,012 adults and included a margin of error of 3 percentage points, Gallup said.
