Crop Protection Research Institute Releases Findings of New Comprehensive Study on Insecticide Use in United States
Posted on: Monday, 16 March 2009, 08:17 CDT
WHAT: The Crop Protection Research Institute (CPRI) will release the results of a just completed, comprehensive study on the value of insecticides in U.S. crop production. The study documents how insecticides have protected the yields of numerous crops in the U.S. since their introduction to American agriculture more than a hundred years ago. Most notably, the findings indicate that without insecticide use nearly 50 percent of the production of most U.S. crops would be lost to crop-feeding insects. Insecticides play a key role in maintaining the high quality of processed and fresh foods for the American consumer. The beneficial impact of these products is enormous in feeding millions of people while keeping food affordable, especially in these difficult economic times.
The Crop Protection Research Institute (CPRI) is part of the CropLife Foundation, a non-profit, non-advocacy organization created to advance the understanding of pesticide use in the U.S. through research and education.
