Fifth Edition Of Popular Map Highlights Existing And Proposed Renewable Energy Power Plants and U.S. Energy Infrastructure

ATLANTA, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Ventyx(TM), the world's largest private software, data and advisory services provider to the energy and utility industry, today announced the release of the 2009 U.S. Renewable Energy map. This fifth edition of the popular map has been updated to show the status of renewable energy in the U.S. electric generation mix as of January 1, 2009, and is the most comprehensive view of this rapidly expanding sector of the U.S. energy industry.

"This fifth edition of our renewable energy map is a key component of our expanding solution and services offering designed to help clients navigate the evolving green energy markets," said Will Dailey, Executive VP, Ventyx Energy Data, Intelligence & Advisory. "It accurately captures the continued staggering growth of renewable facilities in the U.S. The Obama administration has made renewable energy -- and a "green economy" -- a cornerstone of their domestic policy, so we expect new project announcements to continue to accelerate. As a result, this map is a must-have for both seasoned renewable energy professionals, as well as those looking to expand their knowledge of this key industry."

Utilizing data from the industry-leading Ventyx Velocity Suite energy intelligence solution, the full-color map displays more than 1,100 existing plants and almost 750 proposed power plants fueled by renewable sources such as wind, biomass, geothermal, solar and tidal power. The map clearly shows that wind power is still the lion's share of renewable projects, with an operating and planned increase of 38 percent and 74 percent, respectively, over the past 12 months. Conversely, installed biomass capacity has dropped 26 percent, and planned by 64 percent. Solar and geothermal data reflect increases of about 5 percent each. Because all of these projects require a grid-connection, the map also identifies more than 40,000 miles of proposed transmission lines and nearly 400 substation projects currently on the drawing board.

Rendered for Ventyx by Bolder Geographics, the 2009 U.S. Renewable Energy Map measures 48" x 92" (~1:2.4 million) and shows existing and planned renewable facilities, transmission lines (existing and proposed), conventional plants, wind resource measurements, solar and geothermal resources, states, counties, cities, topography and more. The map costs $490, and lamination is available. To order, call 303.444.2393 or visit www.globalenergymaps.com.
