Mikalonis Was Keynote for Sustainable Law Program

TROY, Mich., March 16 /PRNewswire/ — Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., attorney Saulius K. Mikalonis was a speaker in an Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) Homeward Bound program entitled Green Building and Sustainable Development: The New Competitive Advantage. Mr. Mikalonis spoke on the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, the likely evolution of the LEED standards, and its impact on building codes and real estate transactions. Mr. Mikalonis is a Member of the USGBC’s Detroit Regional Chapter, its Secretary and Vice Chair of its Public Policy Committee.

Mr. Mikalonis has been selected as the Vice Chair for Sustainable Development for the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Ecosystems (CCSDE) Committee. As Vice Chair, Mr. Mikalonis will be leading the charge for the CCSDE Committee on developing a workshop scheduled for Spring 2009 on best law firm practices on climate change and sustainability, and will be seeking ways of raising the visibility on the proposed ABA proposed Model Sustainability Policy and Implementation Guidelines For Law Organizations Model Policy and Climate Challenge program. Mr. Mikalonis will also be working on ushering through the proposed ABA House of Delegates resolution on both initiatives.
