"The current economic downturn has many of our customers experiencing difficulty making ends meet," said Terrence Murphy, president, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania. "This increase in the Fuel Fund will allow us to provide assistance to an additional 1,700 low-income customers who would have not otherwise received help."

Columbia Gas' Fuel Fund provides grants to customers for use in offsetting overdue payments or restoring service to terminated accounts. The program is administered by the Dollar Energy Fund and is designed for low income customers who have exhausted all other available energy-assistance programs. In order to qualify, a one person household may earn up to $21,660 per year, while a family of four may not exceed $44,100 annually.

"Columbia is committed to helping its customers maintain their natural gas service year round," Murphy continued. "We encourage customers who are unable to pay their natural gas bill to contact us and arrange for an extended payment plan or, if applicable, apply for energy assistance through LIHEAP or our Fuel Fund."

Customers who require financial assistance to pay their Columbia Gas bill should contact the company at 1-800-537-7431.
