VENTURA, Calif., March 17 /PRNewswire/ — Catalytic Solutions, Inc. (AIM: CTS.L and CTSU.L), the company behind Mixed Phase Catalyst (MPC(R)) technology (the “Company”), announced that its Heavy-Duty Diesel Systems business is well prepared to meet the potential increased demand for its heavy-duty diesel emission control systems as fleet owners take advantage of the $300 million in stimulus funding under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) program.

The Obama Administration’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 17, 2009 makes the funding available to heavy-duty diesel on-road vehicles and off-road equipment owners to retrofit their engines to reduce diesel emissions. These private and public fleets commonly include school buses, urban buses, municipal and state fleets, as well as off-road equipment used in construction and cargo handling. The funding for DERA represents a six-fold increase from the 2008 funding level and will be administered by the EPA. In addition to the $300 million stimulus spending, the recently approved U.S. House and Senate FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Bill provides an additional $60 million in funding for DERA activities.

As a leading provider of verified emission control products, Catalytic Solutions’ subsidiary Engine Control Systems Limited offers a full line of emission control systems which reduce harmful emissions created from diesel, propane, gasoline and natural gas engines used in on-road and off-road applications. The Company’s broad range of EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB) verified retrofit products meet increasingly stringent emission regulations and currently represent 35% of EPA verified devices and 35% of CARB Level 3 verified devices, excluding those used in auxiliary power unit applications. Level 3 verification includes those technologies achieving at least an 85 percent or greater reduction in particulate matter (PM).

Catalytic Solutions’ heavy-duty diesel systems are distributed in the United States by independent dealer networks as well as through the dealer network of PACCAR Parts (www.paccar.com), the parts program for Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks. Our verified products include:

  • Purifilter(TM) (passively regenerating), Combifilter(TM) (actively regenerating) and PurifilterPlus(TM) (combined passive and active regenerating) Diesel Particulate Filter systems: These verified products offer superior filtration, durability, flexibility and an industry-leading >85 to 90% PM reduction.
  • AZ Purifier(TM) & Purimuffler(TM) Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) systems: These verified products offer superior low temperature performance and an industry-leading 20 to 40% PM reduction, depending upon the specific engine.
  • CCV systems: Used in combination with AZ DOC systems, the combination provides an industry-leading 40% PM reduction when equipped on 1991 through to 2004 heavy-duty on-road diesel engines.
  • TermiNOx(TM) Closed Loop Three-Way Catalyst system for off-road liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuelled engines: The first and only verified product to cover LPG engines from 1 to 8.2L in displacement.
