Governor Schwarzenegger 'Takes a Bite' Out of this Year's Crop

WATSONVILLE, Calif., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- While Californians start to shelve their umbrellas and welcome springtime, California strawberries are appearing almost everywhere - including California Agriculture Day - which took place this week at the State Capitol with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and other state representatives in attendance.

"The timing for the event couldn't be better for California strawberries since peak season is kicking off in a big way and this year's crop looks and tastes great," said Mark Murai, President, California Strawberry Commission. "We are proud to be part of the rich tradition and leading innovation that has helped make California the most productive agricultural state for the last five decades."

Strawberries are considered a "super fruit" - not only delicious and low in sugar - but high in vitamin C, and packed with powerful antioxidants and other heart-healthy nutrients that promote healthy aging.

While California strawberries are available year-round, this is a great time to find strawberries as peak season runs from March through September.
