The contract includes work on two TDRS spacecraft, with delivery anticipated by the end of COM DEV’s 2010 fiscal year. The scope of work will include the development, qualification and production of 68 different designs with nearly 500 deliverable hardware items, including filters, diplexers, switches, ferrite devices and ancillary microwave components. Boeing will have the option to order equipment for an additional two satellites.
The TDRS System (TDRSS) is a constellation of geosynchronous satellites operated by NASA to provide nearly continuous communications links between other spacecraft and ground-based controllers and researchers. TDRSS serves the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station and other Earth orbiting spacecraft. A new generation of TDRS satellites is being developed to replace the existing spacecraft as they approach the end of their service life.
