Beginning today, and for the first time since Delta’s merger with Northwest Airlines, Sky will be available to approximately 13 million customers traveling on Delta- and Northwest-operated flights worldwide each month. Readership estimates for the magazine range between 5-6 million–the largest readership among all airline in-flight magazines, and one of the largest magazine readerships among consumer, travel or business magazines, according to MRI, Mediamark Research & Intelligence.
In addition — a first for the in-flight category domestically–15,000 copies of Sky will be available for purchase each month on more than 2,500 newsstands across the country including Barnes & Noble, Borders and B. Dalton bookstores. The cost per issue is $3.99.
“Our goal is to reinvent the in-flight magazine,” says
Jayne Haugen Olson, editor-in chief of Sky magazine. “Our content blends what’s current in the areas of business, travel and lifestyle. Sky‘s approach is smart, confident and fresh, with a global influence and heavy emphasis on tapping international tastemakers, opinion leaders, celebrities and notables.” Olson adds, “Though most readers are on an airplane, Sky offers page-turning content and interesting service-oriented take-away tidbits that are relevant to all travelers.”
In addition to its onboard and newsstand presence, a digitized version of Sky is featured online at www.deltaskymag.com. The site’s content is destination-centric, featuring expert picks and recommendations from top national and international travel destinations, insider tips plus travel and lifestyle blogs from the Sky editorial team.
“The enthusiastic response from advertisers is contrary to what most magazines are seeing in this economic climate,” said
Marialice Harwood, publisher Sky. “Sky reaches a staggering number of people each month and taps the right mix of affluence and influence. At a time when advertisers must make every dollar count, Sky matters.”
World-renowned model, tastemaker and Project Runway host
Heidi Klum, graces the inaugural cover. The accompanying story, “Our World Now,” offers an insider’s look into the places, trends and products that tastemakers, innovators and thought-leaders are talking about around the globe.”
“This is the most exciting time in Delta’s history as our progress to merge two great airlines continues,” said
Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s director of Customer Experience. “The reinvention of a bold new Sky coincides perfectly with Delta’s recasting of the travel experience to offer more choice and consistency, and better, more relevant products for the 170 million global customers who fly with us each year.”
